Ever wondered how the world sounded to someone depressed?

It’s just like you’re walking among people with your head submerged in the waters and sounds of vehicles honking, people walking and talking, dogs barking–everything would sound so distant. Everything seemed muffled, as if things are happening in a reality different than yours. As if the sounds themselves aren’t the background, because you ARE the background. The sounds are what’s happening and you are not.

It could feel like that for a long while, as if you’re in a trance. But as you move your feet to kick the blanket off your skin, sit up, then climb down your double-deck bed, the trance is broken. You stop being the background and start happening again.
